About Gaurav Shorey
Career in Sustainability
Gaurav Shorey, an architect by qualification from the School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi, has dedicated his career to sustainability and climate action. Starting in 2006 with TERI (The Energy & Resources Institute), he led the development of the GRIHA Council and helped establish GRIHA as India’s national green rating framework. Over his 18-year journey, Gaurav has contributed to over 200 green building projects and trained 30,000 professionals in sustainable habitats, energy efficiency and building energy performance simulations.
Educator and Advocate
Beyond consultancy, Gaurav has transitioned to an educator’s role, spreading awareness about sustainability at school and university levels. His commitment to sustainability focuses on reviving traditional knowledge that has sustained civilisations for millennia, aiming to reshape societal perspectives on sustainability.
Thought Leader in Green Architecture
Gaurav challenges current norms in green ratings and sustainability by emphasising the importance of the “Social Construct of Reality” – inspiring individuals to rely on their inherent wisdom and sustainable practices passed down through generations.
SVKM’s NMIMS was founded in 1981 and achieved Deemed-to-be-University status from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2003. NMIMS CDOE, the open and distance learning arm of the SVKM’s NMIMS Deemed-to-be University, is a leader in professional and continuing education. The institution was founded in 1994 with an aim to provide distance education, and in 2012 we began the journey onto the technology path with online learning and the use of ed-tech. This has allowed us to reach thousands of students across India and empower them to fulfil their dreams and aspirations.
